| Project Dive is a casual VR diving simulator developed for the HTC Vive . It is part of the project Green Bubbles which is dedicated to sustainable diving. Project Dive was made to let the player experience a glimpse of a beautiful underwater world. It encourages people to keep the waters clean, and take care of the underwater environment. The game itself is also a nice first experience for VR. The player can move as much or little, as calmly or quickly, as he/she wants, experience the realistic underwater environment, and even have a close encounter of the fishy kind… It was created by 8 students, in a period of 8 weeks within the IGAD program (International Game Architecture and Design). The experience uses photogrammetry data as reference for the seabed to create a realistic and immersive environment. The player moves around underwater, to explore the area and discover different species of fish, and take pictures. This beta version (created by Cradle) will be submitted to the DVRA as well. | |||
Project Motivation | |||
| The combination of using terrain photogrammetry data (obtained off the coast of Italy) and diving in VR was still quite new, but proved a good concept, which allowed for many new ideas to explore, with many more possibilities still. The project was finished in 8 weeks by only 8 students, and received much positive feedback. The experience also features a flexible and heavily optimized swarm behavior system used to simulate all fish. | |||
